A beautiful circular hike to Mamauwiese past the waterfall from the valley station of the Schneeberg chairlift in Losenheim.
Description
The Mamauwiese is also the destination of this hike. The starting point is the valley station in Losenheim at the foot of the Schneeberg. You can stop off at the Hotel Restaurant Forellenhof, the Lahning Inn or the Pizzeria Alpentaverne before heading uphill. You will also pass the ruins of Losenheim Castle. The Sebastian waterfall is wildly romantic and pleasantly cool in summer. The route then leads through peaceful forests via the Faden Graben up to the Mamauwiese, which is the starting point for numerous hiking trails. From here, you can comfortably descend back down into the valley after enjoying the view across to the Schneeberg.
A stage of the Wiener Alpenbogen - Arc of the Viennese Alps (trail) from the Edelweißhütte am Schneeberg to the Öhlerschutzhaus also leads across the Mamauwiese.

Route description Waterfall - Mamauwiese Puchberg am Schneeberg
From the parking lot, we walk in the direction of Gschaiderhof. We follow the blue marker to Forellenhof, after 100 m the yellow marker leads us left to the waterfall. We continue hiking along the blue marker to Mamauwiese. The red marker leads us further uphill to the Mamauwiese inn (Attention: closed!). On the return, we follow the red marker towards Losenheim. Just before the ford, we turn right. Over the so-called Schabrunst, we keep left on the red marker and continue towards Losenheim to the valley station of the chairlift.
Directions
Arrival from Vienna:
South Motorway A2 towards Wiener Neustadt until exit Wr. Neustadt West. From there along the federal road B26 towards Puchberg am Schneeberg. The route is well signposted.
Arrival from Graz:
South Motorway A2 towards Vienna until exit Wr. Neustadt West. From there along the federal road B26 towards Puchberg am Schneeberg. Follow the signs.
Parking
Parking available at the valley station of the chairlift.
Take the train from Vienna or Graz to Wiener Neustadt. From there, take the regional train in the direction of Puchberg am Schneeberg to the final stop.
Direct excursion train on weekends: Departure at 8:41 am from Vienna main station, return at 4:36 pm from Puchberg station
Buses also run (line 350 from Neunkirchen via Ternitz to Puchberg and line 330 from Pernitz to Puchberg). Line 350 continues from Puchberg station to Losenheim to the valley station of the Schneeberg chairlift.
